The three-week long Ekushey Book Fair in Pabna wrapped up last Wednesday. Three prominent residents of the district were accorded reception on the occasion. They are: fasim Mondol (Anti-Raj Movement), Anwarul Haque (Language Movement) and the late Amjad Hossain (posthumous; Liberation War).

The fair kicked off on February 10. Celebrating the spirit of Language Movement, Ekushey Book Fair Organising Committee, Pabna district unit, held the fair at Pabna Town Hall premise. Through discussions and cultural programmes, the fair highlighted the heritage of Bangla literature.

Chief advisor, Ekushey Book Fair Organising Committee, Pabna, Md. Saidul Haque Chunnu, who is also the

administrator of Pabna Zila Parishad, chaired the concluding day's programme. Noted entrepreneur Anjan

Chowdhury, also the managing director of Maasranga Television, spoke as the chief guest at the event.

"Several sons and daughters of Pabna have made invaluable contribution to literature and arts. We have to recognise them with proper honour," Anjan Chowdhury said.

Among others, president of Ekushey Book Fair Organising Committee, Pabna, Zafar Sadeque and secretary, Zakir Hossain, also spoke on the occasion.

Among the honourees, Jasim Mondol devoted his entire life to the betterment of people. Anwarul Haque contributed to the Language Movement and was imprisoned. The late Amjad Hossain played significant role in the region during the freedom movement.

"They had made great contributions for the people of the district. It is our duty to show them proper honour," Zakir Hossain, secretary, Book Fair Organising Committee, said.
