Any university is the fountain-head of knowledge. As such, it is of utmost importance that the environment in and around the university is ideal for those who come to learn and impart learning. AIUB, ever since its inception, has been committed to sustain and enhance this principle.

Advancement

Founded in 1995 with 70 students, AIUB now has more than ten thousand students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees in various disciplines. In today’s 12th convocation, 2172 young graduates will be conferred with their respective degrees.

Campuses

Currently, AIUB is running its operation in seven different campuses conveniently located in one of the most accessible and prestigious hubs of Dhaka. However, for the construction of its Permanent Campus, 5 acres land in Kuratuli, Bashundhara has already been purchased. Initial planning and designing is going on in full scale and construction work is expected to begin by 1 st quarter of 2012. Hopefully, we will be able to shift to our own Campus by the last quarter of 2014.

Research and Publications

AIUB pioneers in the field of research and publication in all academia of Bangladesh. To make its unique mark, AIUB has launched the nation's first electronic databank which contains historical and financial data of nation's business, stock market and economy. AIUB is also the first institute in Bangladesh to launch an online working paper series named “AIUB BUS ECON Working Paper Series"in collaboration with RePEC (Research Papers in Economics) to introduce the local researchers with the global research networks. AIUB has been consistent with the publication of its two main academic journals, “AIUB Journal of Science and Engineering (AJSE)” and “AIUB Journal of Business and Economics (AJBE)”. Both the journals have been regularly published and have been highly appreciated by the academic community in this country and abroad.

To further boost the university’s research culture, the AIUB Center for Research Planning and Development was established. The Center envisages strengthening and expanding the research horizon of the university and promote excellence in its academic programs through internationally funded research project.

Infrastructure

AIUB has consistently invested substantial resources in its physical and electronic infrastructure facilities. The Faculty of Engineering has 20 laboratories equipped with instruments from Europe and North America. AIUB has fully equipped 2 Physics and 1 Chemistry laboratory. The Architecture department has 10 design studios; English language courses are supported with a modern speech laboratory. There is a modern Macintosh Lab for Graphic P^igping; a digital imaging studio and a fully operational film stud o within our premises.

The IT department is equipped with all the latest hardware and software facilities having 20 powerful servers, 640 workstations in 16 state-of-the-art computer labs. The network backbone uses a fiber optic cable for optimum bandwidth of 12 MBPS - the latest addition to AIUB's IT infrastructure, which has made information sharing and data management tremendously fast-paced.

Highlights of the Academic Year 2010-11

Outside the academic arena, AIUB strives for brilliance and excels in numerous co-curricular activities. Some of the highlights of the academic calendar 2010-11 are: AIUB had the privilege of arranging an interactive session with Philip Kotler-the Marketing Guru, and the academia of Bangladesh and also hosted the 14th International Conference on Computer & Information Technology (ICCIT). A group project by AIUB EEE students was adjudged champion of the National Innovation Awards 2011. Another group project by AIUB Computer Science students also brought home the honor of winning the World Wide Microsoft Imagine Cup, People’s Choice Awards 2011. AIUB CISCO Networking Academy has been granted ITC (Instructor Training Center) and ASC (Academy Support Center) status for the whole of Bangladesh. For the fourth time in a row, AIUB teams emerged as the Champion of the National CISCO Skills Competition 2011 along with securing the First Runner up and the Second Runner up titles. Like every year, the Pohela Boishakh Festival; International Mother Language Day, Art Exhibitions and Photography Exhibitions were held to commemorate different occasions in the Academic Calendar. A very successful Job Fair and a Corporate Dinner deserve a special mention. The Academia Technology Alliance between AIUB-Microsoft and AIUB-Danida to promote enterprise system and animation education in Bangladesh remains a bright spot in the long list of achievements of the last Academic Calendar. As usual, the Lecture Series in honor of the Founder Chairman Dr. Anwarul Abedin on relevant socio-economic topics was organized by the University in order to promote professional development activities for its Faculty and Staff.

Special Features

In 2011 the MBA & EMBA Programs were granted Level 1 accreditation status by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universitiy (PAASCU): an accrediting agency under the Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN). This process was undertaken to establish a benchmark for excellence and quality assurance - the first of its kind in Bangladesh. The BBA Program has also been awarded the 'Candidate' status by the same accreditation body. Similar initiatives are underway to give accreditation to other programs from all the faculties. Another feat of glory in 2011 was that AIUB was adjudged number 1 amongst all the Private Universities of Bangladesh by 2012 Web Ranking .

Right from the day of its inception, AIUB has stood for quality, commitment and integrity as far as this country's higher education is concerned. The journey has never been silk-smooth, and will not be either in the coming days- but AIUB, with all its administrators, teachers and students, is resolved to uphold the spirit it has aimed at - to change this society towards betterment and to create the venue that would bring that change!
