Sundarganj police yesterday recovered the decomposed body of an eight-year-old girl from a septic tank of Dharmapur Abdul Jobber Degree College.

Police said the college reopened yesterday after Eid vacation. The students attending classes smelt bad odour near the toilet.

After opening the cover of septic tank they found the body of a girl child.

The hapless girl was later identified as Fency Begum, 8, daughter of Feroz Mia of village Kalir Khamar.

Family sources said that girl was supposed to visit her grandfather's home adjacent to Dhamapur bazat on the occasion of Eid festival. Prior to Eid day she went to the nearby union parishad area to see the distribution of rice under VGF card. Since than she went missing and never returned home. Relatives continued to search for her but failed to locate her whereabouts.

Police suspect that criminals might have killed her after rape and dumped the body inside septic tank. There were several marks of injury on her person, they said.
