Cameron White was retained Wednesday as captain of Australia's 1\venty20 team for their upcoming tour of Sri Lanka but dropped from the one-day squad in what he said was "a kick in the guts".

The 27-year-old has had a poor recent run of form and was replaced for the one-dayers by Shaun Marsh, who missed the World Cup earlier this year due to a hamstring injury.

Australia play two Twenty20 matches, five ODIs and three Tests against Sri Lanka from August 6 to September 20, with the Test team to be released later this month.

Along with White, Callum Ferguson exits the one-day team with David Hussey returning after missing the Bangladesh tour due to the birth of his first child.

Young paceman James Pattinson and bowling all-rounder John Hastings were included in both squads while veteran fast bowler Brett Lee retains his spot in the Twenty20 team.

Selectors called the T\venty20 squad "well balanced" with potentially explosive batsman Marsh, Shane Watson and David Warner at the top of the order combined with White, Aaron Finch and David Hussey in the middle order.

Pattinson will spearhead the bowling along with Lee and Mitchell Johnson.

Marsh is expected to open the one-day batting, with former captain Ricky Ponting also in the side.

The T\iventy20 players fly out on July 30 and the remaining one-day squad members on August 5.
