The Fatullah Cricket Stadium is likely to be used as a practice venue for Argentina and Nigeria before their international friendly match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on September 6.

The Bangladesh Football Federation had requested the National Sports Council, owners of all stadiums in country, to allot the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium or Fatullah Cricket Stadium for holding the practice sessions for Argentina and Nigeria though both teams will have indoor-practice at the BNS, a day before their scheduled encounter.

“It is all but confirmed that the practice sessions of Argentina and Nigeria will take place at the Fatullah Stadium and it will be finalised in a couple of days,” said Organising committee co-chairman Badal Roy after a meeting between the BFF high ups and the youth and

sports ministry officials at the BFF House yesterday.

Anwarul Haq Helal, chairman of the organising committee, said that the Fatullah ground would be made football friendly after removing the cricket pitches as the NSC has earlier planned to remove those cricket pitches in a bid to increase the drainage system of the ground.

State minister for youth and sports Ahad Ali Sarker, who was also present at the meeting assured that the government would provide all support to make the international friendly match a success.

The BNS will now see up-gradation of all dressing rooms, referees room, doping and medical room, press box as well as the playing field which will be fitted with new grass in certain places.

BFF president Kazi Salahuddin, BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy, youth and sports secretary Mahbub Ahmed, and NSC secretary Shafiq Anwar were also present at the meeting.
