Considering the meticulous attention the Nobel laureate poet gave to descriptions of the characters in his novels, stories and dance-dramas, as well as planning costumes for his plays [staged in his lifetime), it's safe to assume that Rabindranath Tagore had a keen eye for fashion and style. Descriptions of him by others validate this assumption.

Nine imaginative fashion designers of the country showcased designs inspired by Tagore's literature, plays and the bard's personal sense of style at an innovative fashion show on May 3. The event — part of British Council's four-month long "Rediscovering Tagore" festival — was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

Designers — Chandra Shekhar Shaha, Lipi Khandker, Emdad Hoque, Kuhu Plamondon, Bizly Hoque, Shaibal Saha, Tahsina Shahin, Sabyasachi Hazra, Farha Anjum Bari — highlighted various aspects of Tagore's creativity through their designs. The designs also demonstrated the influence of British fashion in Tagore's life with a fusion of contemporary styles. Beauty expert Kaniz Almas Khan and guest hair and makeup expert Fiona Minors (lecturer, London College of Fashion, UK) helped execute the looks.

Through the show British Council's festival celebrating Tagore's 150th birth anniversary came to an end. The Daily Star was the communication partner of the festival.
