Abdul Salam, an expatriate Bangladeshi living in the United Kingdom, has started his expedition to the Everest — the apex of the world on March 2 from London.

Hailing from Begumpur village under Usmanpur union in Sylhet Sadar upazila, the self-financed expeditor has chosen the north route of China through Tibet to reach the summit of Everest within 69 days.

"I already have climbed Mount Kilimanjaro — the highest peak of Africa, the Scottish Highlands, the Swiss Alps, high altitude mountain in Kyrgyzstan, and many other mountains around the world as part of the preparation for the Everest," Abdul Salam, 35, told The Daily Star over the telephone from London.

He climbed Scottish mountains in three winters and also trekked on the British mountains.

Salam also ran five marathons following his dream for Everest and will trek to Namche Bazar of Nepal for acclimatisation.

He will set off for Tibet Everest Base Camp from Kathmandu on April 9 and intends to visit Bangladesh after successfully climbing the Everest.
