Produced, co-written and directed by Danny Boyle, ”127 Hours" is based on an autobiography, "Between a Rock and a Hard Place", of an adventure enthusiast Aron Ralston. The film stars James Franco as mountain climber Aron who gets trapped by a boulder in Robbers Roost, Utah, popularly known as the Canyonland.

This is an exceedingly motivational and at times graphic movie which shows the hardships of a man battling with death and trying to win. It depicts the massive inner strength possessed by Aron as he refuses to give up, even till the last minute.

The movie begins with Aron preparing for a day in Canyonland National Park. Being more of an adrenaline junky person, Aron does not leave behind a message or tell anyone where he is heading.

The movie proceeds to show Aron meeting two female hikers in Canyonland and having a good time with them, oblivious to the mishap that is to come. He continues with his explorations, wedging through narrow passages filled with lose boulders, when one such boulder is jarred loose, falling after Aron to the bottom of the canyon and trapping him. He stays fixed in that situation for more than five days without food and water, and is forced to sustain himself through the most horrible methods.

During his isolation from the world above, Aron recalls various incidents of his life and figures out that this doom was impending on him. He realises how much he values his near and dear ones and regrets the wrong choices he had made. At one point he starts hallucinating out of fatigue and visualizes a young boy that could be his own son if he survives. This gives him the final boost and he gathers all his will, breaks his hand bone and cuts it off using a blunt knife. The portrayal of this gruesome scene in the movie demonstrates the extent to which a person can go to survive and the level of human courage.

With six Academy Award nominations, including best picture and best actor, the movie was well received by critics and is a must see for those looking for a unique movie experience.
