BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday accused the government of destabilising the country through "a conspiracy to evict Khaleda Zia” from her Dhaka Cantonment house.

“The government is conspiring to oust Khaleda Zia horn her house by taking the administration, judiciary and army in its favour,” he said while addressing a discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club.

jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, a front body of the main opposition, organised the meeting on the occasion of the "National Revolution and Solidarity Day” which BNP observed on November?. The BNP leader said Khaleda's cantonment house is a settled issue but the government is politicising the matter to evict the party's chairperson from the house.

“You [govt] can harass the opposition but will never succeed," he noted.

Talking about public support for the government, Delwar said the prime minister should realise how her party was being alienated from people during her last 22 months in power.

He urged the government to return to the democratic path or else people would oust it from power.

Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib un Nabi Sohel presided over the meeting. BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Moyen Khan, Sarwari Rahman, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Abdullah Al Noman, Zainul Abdin Farroque, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, among others, spoke at the meeting.
