The country is badly in need ofvaliant leader like Mirza Aziza Idris, an organiser of liberation war, to eliminate anarchy from the society, speakers told a commemorative meeting yesterday.

Anarchy is pervasive in the society, they said adding that bold leaders like Aziza, who never compromised with the unjust, are needed to restore peace in the country.

Nijera Kori, Association for Land Reform and Development (ALRD), Pakkhik Ononna, and Nari Sangbadik Kendra jointly organised the meeting at Bengal Shilpalaya.

The speakers recalled her contributions to

politics, mass upsurge in 1969, democratic movements against Pakistani military rulers, and establishing women rights. The veteran woman leader passed away at a city hospital on October 17.

Born in 1926 in Dinajpur, Aziza was involved in progressive and non-communal politics throughout her life. She was a member of the advisory committee of Ganatantri Party.

Director General of Shilpakala Academy, Kamal Lohani, presided over the meeting, which was addressed by Pakkhik Onanya Editor Tasmima Hossain, Nijera Kori Coordinator Khushi Kabir, and Aziza's daughter Kazi Madina, among others.
