Two buffalos sauntering over a large piece of land on a cloudy noon — a seemingly good composition for a photograph. But if you knew that this land was once a river, it'd certainly pique your interest. This image by Tapan Kumar Mandal and 49 others that invoke similar kind ofinterestand emotions are on display at the Drik Gallery, Dhanmondi in Dhaka

The exhibition, titled “Shades of Passion”, has been organised by Dreamers Factory, a group of photographers, and opened on September 22. All photos on display are in black and white. Noted photographer Pavel Rahman inaugurated the exhibition.

The exhibition is part of a competition by Dreamers Factory. Primarily they invited photographers to submit their works. From 550 entries, 50 were selected for the exhibition. The organisers did not specify any topic or subject but the images had to be black and white. Featured photographs cover a diverse range of subjects.

Royana Rasnat presents a portrait of an indigenous child. Rasnat calls the picture “thousand wonders of child eyes.” Children are also subjects of Sakib Ahmed and Habib Ataul's photographs. Ahmed's entry is called “Eyes of Sadness,” while Ataul's photo frames a girl, sitting by the window of a train, with her back to the camera. Ataul's photo is titled “Lost in Thoughts.”

Untainted beauty of the river Shangu is the subject of another image. Fahim Ui Alam took the photo of the beautiful hilly river.

Among other memorable photographs are Sajib Paul's "Destination” and Ali Ashraf Ashik’s “Lonely.” Featuring a vast hilly landscape with a rail line in the left part of the frame, “Destination” zooms in on serenity. “Lonely” shows a quiet road with a canopy of trees; a man walking alone.

Mohammad Rakibul Hasan's portrait of an elderly farmer, titled "Incredible Face,” is also remarkable.

The exhibition will end on September 26.
