Members of different civil society organisations staged a demonstration in the city yesterday demanding demolition of all illegal structures and implementation of detailed area plan (DAP) for the Dhaka city.

Speakers at a rally said the prime minister has approved the DAP for Dhaka city but the main obstacle to implementing the project is some illegal structures, includingtheBGMEABhaban.

Citizens Rights Movement (CRM), Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (BAPA), Initiative for Peace, Sheba and some other social organisations participated in the rally in front of the BGMEA Bhabaninthecity.

They demanded demolition of5,000illegal structures, including those on 43 canals in the city, and improvement of the drainagesystem.

CRM President Maj (Retd) Md Mafizul Haque Sarker, BAPA General Secretary Abdul Matin, Executive Director of Initiative for Peace Muhammad Shafiqur Raman and Dr Md Nuruddin of Sheba spoke at the rally.
