Sarika, a rising contemporary actress and model, shot to popularity after her appearance in one of Banglalink's TVCs. In an interview with Zahid Akbar, the rising star talks about her recent activities and future plans.

TDS: How did you step into the media world?

Sarika: I started as a model in a billboard ad for Singer. Later, I worked for a djuice ad. Gradually I got involved with modelling.

TDS: Was modellingyour childhood dream?

Sarika: No. I never thought that I would work as a model, leave alone carve out a career in media. Nevertheless, when I went to programmes or get-togethers, people offered me modelling assignments. That is how I got involved with this medium.

TDS: Alongside modelling, do you regularly perform in TV plays and do you plan to continue in this profession?

Sarika: Yes, I have acted in several plays so far. Among them Ashutosh Sujon's “Camellia”, Akram Khan's "Ekjon Shoilyochikitshaker Galpo” and Azad Abul Kalam's “Chhayajuddho” are notable. Recently, I worked for a couple of serials as well. I want to establish my career as an actor but that can wait. At present I want to concentrate on modelling.

TDS: Do you prefer acting to modelling?

Sarika: I started as a model. So, I do prefer modelling, though I know it can only be a temporary stop along the way. I may establish my career as an actor. But now I don't want to take the double pressure of both modelling and acting because I want to have a long stint on the scene.

TDS:Any plans to join films?

Sarika: I have received several offers for acting on the big screen. But I had to turn them down because my family disapproved of this move. If my family permits, I will jump ahead without fail.

TDS: Who are your favourite models?

Sarika: My all time favourites are Nobel and Mou. They seem to me “The Perfects".
