The special court-4 of Bangladesh Rifles yesterday adjourned the trial of 75 accused BDR jawans of 9 Rifle Battalion at the BDR sector headquarters in Rangamati and scheduled January 10, 2011 for next hearing.

The tribunal resumed its proceedings on Monday after a gap of 73 days and was again adjourned for eight months after receiving the depositions of 25 witnesses out of 100.

Two witnesses—Habilder Md. Mokhlesur Rahman and Habilder Md. Shahadat Ali— gave depositions before the special court.

The accused were produced before the tribunal and sent back to the prison after the adjournment.

Director General of BDR Maj Gen Md. Moinul Islam, Lt Col Md. Abdur Rouf and Major Golam Mostafa al-Mamun are the members of the special court.

Deputy Attorney General Md Sohrawardy, on behalf of attorney general, helped the proceedings.

Mosharraf Hossain Kajal and Md. Mohiuddin Dewan were present as the senior Public prosecutors on behalf of the state while Advocate SM Abdur Rouf, Kazi Bshir Ahmed and Major Enamul Karim provided legal assistance to the mutineers.

The mutiny in Rangamati took place in three of the sector's five battalions. The three battalions are—12 Rifles Battalion at Rajanagar in Longudu, 9 Rifles Battalion at Marishya in Baghaichhari and 18 Rifles Battalion at Chhotohorina in Barkal upazila of the district.
