Singling out 20 teachers as laggards, Dhaka University officials are considering a rule that would require instructors to return examinations results on time to students so they can continue their education without delay.

DU administrators also say they are now formally monitoring whether teachers are collecting, grading and returning the exams within prescribed deadlines, based on the nature of the course and how many students are enrolled.

The action comes more than two weeks after about 500 DU students staged protests in three

departments and demanded action because they had not received their exam results for up to seven months, preventing them from enrolling in their next classes on time.

"It is totally unexpected and unacceptable, ” said one social sciences master's student, who asked for anonymity because his exam results were still pending. "We finished our MSS examinations in November 2009 but are yet to get the results.

"I think teachers do not care about the importance of time in our lives,” he said.

Added another student in the political science department: "The trend of receiving and
