India's outspoken environment minister Jairam Ramesh pulled off his academic gown and cap at a university graduation ceremony, calling them a "barbaric” colonial legacy, a report said yesterday.

Ramesh drew cheers in the central city of Bhopal as he discarded the robes and mortarboard Friday and addressed students in his trademark Indian loose cotton attire of long white shirt and pyjamas, theTimes of India reported.
