Shakib Al Hasan returned to the domestic scene with an impressive all-round show as Abahani maintained their winning streak with a massive 107-run victory against Old DOHS in a low-scoring match of the Premier Division Cricket League at the Fatullah Cricket Stadium yesterday.

It was the first match in this season's 50-over league for the world's number one all-rounder in one-day rankings and he bumped up the strength bf the defending champions by hitting the match's highest 42 and followed it with a two-wicket haul.

Title contenders Mohammedan also kept their winning run on, thanks to an all-round performance from Marshal Ayub who claimed four wickets after making 56 to script a 36-run victory over Partex Sporting Club at BKSP

At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, former national skipper Habibul Bashar struck a 100-ball fifty, but his effort

wasn't enough for Surjo Tonin against Cricket Coaching School (CCS) who rode on two half-centuries from Atiqur Rahman and Nazmul Hossain to win the low-scoring affair.

But the lowest innings of the fifth round and so far in the league came when Old DOHS were bowled for 64 in 30.4 overs in reply to Abahani's 171. Veteran left-arm spinner Mohammad Rafique and Nasir Hossain made the damage, apart from Shakib's haul, by sharing six wickets. Only two DOHS batsmen, Wasim Nayeem (10) andTaibur Rahman managed double-digit scores.

Abahani themselves had a poor show with the bat, but efforts from two late order batsmen Rafique (26) and Robiul Islam (29) after Shakib's fifty, which contained two fours and two sixes, helped the giants to put up a descent total on the board.

Batting effort was better at the sports institute ground where Mohammedan scored 247 for 5 in their stipulated 50 overs. ICL-back Aftab Ahmed scored his best so far with a 84-ball 70 that featured seven fours, while Marshal Ayub added 56 off 78 balls that had two fours. Left- hander Faisal Hossain picked up the pace with an unbeaten 69-ball 68 that had three fours and as many sixes.

In reply, few of the Partex batsmen got starts but failed to carry on their innings as they were all out for 211 in 49.5 overs.

Marshal captured four wickets for 29 runs.

Left-arm paceman Syed Rasel and Atiqur Rahman dictated terms at Mirpur as they shared six wickets to wrap up SurjoTorun for 158 runs.

Atiqur then contributed with the bat with a 97-ball 58 as CCS recovered from 15 for 2 to reach the target with five wickets in hand. Nazmul Hossain was the other notable scorer with unbeaten 52 off 63 balls that contained seven fours.
