The BNP National Standing Committee (NSC) yesterday decided to call in its grassroots leaders to the capital and give their opinions on party activities so it can finalise strategies to reorganise the party from top to bottom.

Six teams for six divisions comprised of joint secretaries general and organisational secretaries will hold meetings with the upazila level leaders under their divisions throughout this month s t arting from Tuesday.

The BNP National Standing Committee took the decisions at a meeting last night besides discussing party leaders' demand for impeaching President lajuddin Ahmed for not mentioning late president Ziaur Rahman in his speech in parliament's inaugural session.

Meeting sources said they also discussed revamping the party through election. The BNP leaders said the party council might be held in June or July but everything will depend on the opinions of the grassroots leaders.

Asked about the party council, BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain said, "We want to start the process from the grassroots level." The NSC will sit again on Wednesday to discuss all issues including the party's organisational activities.

Delwar was speaking at a press briefing aner the NSC meeting that started at 7:30pm at party Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office and lasted for about two and a half hours. Khaleda presided over the meeting.

NSC members Saifur Rahman, RA Gani, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Khandaker Mahbubuddin Ahmad, Shamsul Islam and Lt Gen (retd) Mahbubur Rahman were present at the meeting.

Delwar said, "The six organisational teams will report to US' aftdt ’ 'dbllEcdfiT opinions from upazila level leaders. After reviewing those reports the standing committee will decide how the party will be reorganised." He added that a questionnaire has been prepared for the grassroots level leaders to get the real picture of the party and their opinions.

Abdullah Al Noman and Mizanur Rahman Minu are in the team for Dhaka division, Goyeswar Roy and Kazi Asaduzzman for Chittagong division, Nazrul Islam Khan and Shamsuzzaman Dudu for Sylhet, Selima Rahman and Mohammad Shahiahan for Khulna, Mirza Aobas and Aman Ullah Aman for Rajshahi, and MA Mannan and Moshiur Rahman for Barisal.
