Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday said her government would ensure congenial atmosphere in all educational institutions across the country and reduce session jam at any cost.

" Session jam is to be reduced and criminal activities stopped in educational institutions. We will maintain peaceful atmosphere there at any cost," she said while inaugurating the month-long Amar Ekushey Boi Mela-2009 on Bangla Academy premises in the capital.

Hasina, also the president of Awami League, directed all to worK uieir oest to maxe me country prosperous and developed by the year of 2021 when the nation would celebrate the golden jubilee of the war of liberation.

"We want to implement the dreams of the freedom fighters and our (AL's) commitment of charter for change. Thirty-eight years have already gone since our independence and there is no time to waste. We all will have to workour best to build adevel-oped Bangladesh," she said.

The Prime Minister's assurance came at a time when country's different public universities and colleges witnessed series of violent activities.

Hasina said her government wants to ensure 100 percent enrolment in primary education by next year, food sufficiency by 2012, full literacy by 2014.

"We want to bring poverty rate at 15 percent from 45 percent, ensure ihteinet facility iri every upazila and make computer education from class-Vl compulsory in order to make a digital Bangladesh by the year of 2021,"sheadded.

No nation could be developed without education, she said, adding that her government would make education free up to bachelor degree level to make the nation educated. In this regard, she urged the young generation to make a habit of reading books to acquire knowledge.

can know about Bangladesh's culture, literature, 21 February eta

She also ordered them to take steps to preserve digitally the historical documents and books of Bengali literature and culture, including language movement and war of liberation and make the young generation aware of it.

The Prime Minister urged publishers to publish good quality books at low price so that people could make a habit ofbuying and readingbooks.

Hasina formally announced the adoption of sign language at state level. "This mode of communication will begin in BTV and gradually, in other electronic media," she said hoping that private TV channels would come forward for support

The Prime Minister requested visiting Indian writer Mahasweta Devi to come on the dais and took seat beside her.

Chaired by president of Bangla Academy Prof Harun-6r-Rashid. the functioh was also addressed by information and cultural affairs minister Abul Kalam Azad, national professor Kabir Chowdhury, proprietor of University Press Limited Mohiuddin Ahmed and Director General of the Bangla Academy Syed Mohammad Shahed.
