A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing of grenade attack cases till January ‘6 following time petitions by the prosecution.

The cases were filed with Motijheel Police Station for launching grenade attacks on an Awami League (AL) rally on Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004 that left 24 people dead and 200 others injured.

Judge Mohammad Masdar Hossain of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 could not record statement of Sharif Faruque Ahmed, complainant of the cases, as the jail authorities failed to produce 14 accused, including Harkatul Jihad (Huji) chief Mufti Abdul Hannan and former deputy minister Abdus Salam Pintu, in the court.

On June 11 of last year, Senior Assistant Police Super of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Fazlul Kabir, also the investigation officer of the cases, submitted two charge sheets in connection with the grenade attacks to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka showing 412 people as prosecutionwitnesses
