Awami League (AL) has completed the task of collecting recommendations from its grassroots level committees to finalise the names of its candidates for the next parliamentary elections by November 15.

Following the directive of the AL Central Working Committee (ALCWC), party's grassroots level units in 300 constituencies have already sent lists of potential candidates to the AL Parliamentary Board (ALPB) headed by party President Sheikh Hasina.

The ALPB, which has been holding meetings regularly for the last couple of days, will finalise the names of the candidates by November 15.

AL has collectedTk 2,06,85000 by selling a total of 2,758 nomination forms each for Tk 7,500.

Although most grassroots level units have sent more than one name as prospective candidate, many units have sent only one name.

Party leaders believe that they would be able to field more competent candidates in the next national election than the previous ones.

Party President Sheikh Hasina has been recommended for Bagerhat-1 constituency while presidium member Zillur Rahman in Kishorganj-8, Amir Hossain Amu in Jhalakathi-1 and 2, Abdur Razzak in Shariatpur 1 and 3, Tofail Ahmed in Bhola-1 and 2, Matia Chowdhury in Sherpur-2, Syed Ashraful Islam in Kishorganj 1, Saber Hossain Chowdhury in Dhaka 8 and 9, Sultan Mohammad Mansur Ahmed in Moulavibazar-2, Asaduzzaman Noor in Nilphamari-2, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith in Sylhet-1, Abdul Hamid in Kishorganj-4, Prof Abu Sayeed in Pabna-1, and Tanjim Ahmed Shohei Taj in Gazipur-4.

QUADER RESUMES OFFICE

AL Joint General Secretary Obaidul Quader, who returned home on November 8 from India after receiving medical treatment, resumed office yesterday. He also attended the ALPB meeting.
