The certificate giving ceremony of the workshop on "Modern Vocal Science and Practicing Rabindra Sangeet as an Art form" was held on November 9 ht the National Music and Dance Auditorium, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) under the Training Department of BSA. The 15-day workshop was conducted by noted Tagore exponent, artiste and researcher Dr. Anisur Rahman.

The certificate giving ceremony began with conferring a wreath and an 'uttariyo' to Dr. Anisur Rahman by the Director General of BSA, Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam. The event was presided over by the Director General of BSA. Dr. Anisur Rahman and MA Mannan Hawladar, director of , Training Department, BS/\ spoke at the event.

"Modem vocal science is a discipline which was developed almost a century ago, yet not many people actually knows about this, in particular in this subcontinent. I believe, there are many musical talents in the country, who need proper guidance and can be benefited a lot from studying this science. Accolades

go to BSA for organising this workshop, realising its importance," said Dr. Anisur Rahman in his speech.

"Performing Rabindra Sangeet is not just following the grammar ■ of the genre; it needs a profound understanding of the lyrics and the essence of the songs. I'm delighted that BSA included the issue in the workshop," he added.

A total 53 artistes - most of them music teachers -- from all over the country participated at the workshop. Soma Rani Roy from Dhaka and Mustafa Kamal from Chittagong among the participants shared their experiences

with the audience at the event.

A musical programme followed where the participants presented songs ranging from Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Sangeet, classical, folk and Dr. Anisuq

Rahman, group rendition of the Rabindra Sangeet "Agun-er parshmoni" by the participants of tire workshop opened the musical programme. Next was a presentation of "Raaga Malkosh" by Sunil Chakrabarti, an artiste from Bagherhaat. Kohinur Khanam, Shahinur Al Amin, Tasnuva Bari, Rimi Sabbir, Shrabani Saha, among others also performed at the event.
