But the left-arm spinner admitted that he wouldn't put that as an excuse for losing the match. "We weren't good enough on the day," saidVettori.

"I think it was pretty obvious we wanted to bowl first so If we had done that, the team was right," addedVettori.

'We respect the players at an individual level although their team record is not great. (Mohammad) Ashraful, [Abdur] Razzak and (Mashrafe Bin] Mortaza have very good one-day record and are good cricketers.

"If they can put it together as a team, they can become tougher," said the New Zealand captain.

The New Zealand team are scheduled to train at the Mirpur venue today, ahead of Saturday's second game and the Kiwi hoped that his side learned from their mistakes.

"It is a tough start to the tour and the key is what we make of it in the series. Bangladesh have the momentum and we must make sure we rectify what wrong we did today [Thursday]," addedVettori.
