A constable was arrested after suspension from job yesterday following his alleged involvement in killing his wife at Khallshpur on Septembers.

Shibanl,22, was burnt by her constable husband Kartik Robidas at his house in Mujgunni residential area. She succumbed to her burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on September 4

The arrestee also sustained burn injuries while setting on lire to his wife and is now under treatment at DMCH.

Blaming Kartik for the killing, Shibani's father Mukhlal Robidas lodged an FIR with Khalishpur Police Station under Women and Children Torture Prevention Act, 2000 on September 6. He blamed Kartik for killing his daughter for dowry. Kartik's father Jiten, mother Chamell, brothers BImol, Dilip, Dulal, Narayan and sister Pushpo Rani were also named as other accused.

However, none of the other accused was arrested till 5 yesterday afternoon although a message was sent to Gheor police in Manikganj district for their arrest, said investigation officer subinspector Firoz.

Kartik allegedly used to torture Shibani for dowry since marriage on August 8,2003. 'On my refusal to pay more dowry to Kartik, he killed my daughter,' the complainant alleged.

Khulna divisional unit of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers' Association and Khulna district unit of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Committee assured legal aid to the complainant and started an investigation into the murder.
