A business group yesterday assured that the price of powder milk would not be increased during the forthcoming holy month of Ramadan.

Production and supply of Milk Vita would also be raised to 250 metric tonnes from 150 metric tonnes everyday considering extra demand for milk during the month, an official release said.

The assurance of the businesspeople came at a meeting with

Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman at the Commerce Ministry conference room. The meeting was aimed at keeping the supply and price of powder milk stable in Ramadan.

Some companies will also market mini powder milk packets weighing 25 and 50 grams for poor and small customers.

The meeting was attended by Commerce secretary Firoz Ahmed, Additional Secretary Golam Mostakim, TCB Chairman M Ziaul Islam, Chief Controller of Import and Export Department M Jahurul Alam, BDR representative Colonel Mujib, BSTI Director General M Azmal Hossain,

Syed Saiful Islam of Nesley Bangladesh, M Moazzem Hossain Patwari of New Zealand Dairy, Meghna Group DGM Sheikh Rakikul Alam and officials of Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue (NBR) and MilkVita.

The meeting was informed that the price of powder milk is now stable in the international market. It can be reduced by Tk 10-12 in each kilogram milk powder if customs duty is exempted in import. Decision will be taken later in this regard after discussion with the NBR, the official release added.
