Terming corruption the enemy of development, Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina urged the caretaker government to take tough measures against the corrupt.

She was talking to the leaders of the Canada chapter Awami League before heading for London Saturday night, according to New York-based news agency News World.

Saying it is well-known for whose unbridled corruption, misrule, nepotism and politicisation the country has plunged into deep crises, the former prime minister called on all to work for her party’s victory in the next general election so the country does not go through such situation again.

She said she could take up any challenge in the interest of her fellow countrymen.

The Awami League chief may return to Washington DC on July 20.
