Print making has never been easy, whether it be on wood, stone or metal. However, Farhana Yasmin and Tariq Julfiqar have fascinated their viewers with their.jeepnt combined exhibition . of prints at Samatata Gallery. The two artists have different views and themes, both living in a world of their own.

Farhana presents incidents from her every day life. She brings in both the happy and painful events from her life, beginning with her childhood and goingup to emotions and memories of her adult life. It is the selection of monochrome colours that make her work unusual.

She says," There is no difference between my art and my life. I want to transfer my experiences. 1 don't want to be the only one talking and my audience listening. 1 want to share my experiences."

Farhana has studied print making at Rajshahi University and at UODA, Dhaka. She has won the Rashid Chowdhury Award from Rajshahi University; she has taken part in many group exhibitions such as 12* Asian Art Biennale.

Tariq depicts mankind's eternal dream of flying in the sky. He too uses monochrome but from time to time includes shades of green, yellow and red, bringing in a fresh concept of combination of hues.

He says," I feel the artist's life is full of commitment Art is an absolute obsession and my passions are my inspiration. Most artists think deeply about what is happening around and inside them, and share these thoughts and ideas with others through their visual art. The major theme of my work is the social situation of our time and salvation from our stagnant times.”

Tariq has qualified from the same art institutions as Farhana, and has an Honourable Men-

tion Award from the 17th National Art Exhibition, 2007 from the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

"Viscocity, Sulakha's mind" depicts black twigs and branches in the shape of a leaning woman against a greenish yellow sky.

"Uprising, Intaglio" depicts a flying man seen against a black and gray backdrop, the subject appearing almost like a dragon fly. "All in the past", mixed media, includes floating figures, hands, alphabets and dry autumn leaves.

"Sokittho", woodcut, presents two happy, village women in bright and contrasting colours.

The exhibition ends on May 5.
