Leading singers of the country -- Sabina Yasmin, Farida Parveen, Syed Abdul Hadi, Kiranchandra Roy, Subir Nandi and Abida Sultana -- performed at the closing session of the three-day cultural programme at the Winter Garden, Hotel Sheraton. The cultural programme was a part of the first Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) Confer ence '07.

The event began with a dance recital, directed by Sultana Haider, welcoming (lie expatriates. The dance was followed by a duet, Tumi Bangladesher short tan, performed by Subir Nandi and Abida Sultana.

Subir Nandi also presented a patriotic song, Himi arnarhaul banshi.

Later, Nahid Mahmud, an expatriate living in the US, entertained the audience with a joke, focusing on the responsibilities of Bangladeshis living abroad in the era of globalisation.

Kiranchandra Roy's skilful renditions of Aay dekhe ja jogotbashi and the SD Burman classic Takdum takdum bajai Bangladesher d/io/enthrailed the audience.

Abida Sultana rendered a patriotic song Ekatturer sholoi Decernber-e and a Hason Raja classicNisha lagilo re.

Apart from demonstrating her forte in Lalon songs, Farida Parveen rendered her familiar patriotic song Ei Padma eiMeghna. Her soulful performance seemed to strike a chord with the audience.

Veteran singer Syed Abdul Hadi performed Ei matir bukey ghumiye achhc and Pora chokheja dekh i.

Iconic singer Sabina Yasmin was the last performer of the evening. She rendered two of her acclaimed patriotic songs Shob kola janala khuledao na and Oi rail liner-o metho path-er pashey dariye -- both composed by Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul

Explaining the reason behind selecting the songs Sabina said that these songs should encourage the NRBs to contribute more to the betterment of the motherland.
