The government yesterday banned all kinds of assembly on streets cm New Year’s Eve but decided to allow celebrations as long as it is confined in an establishment.

The inter-ministerial committee on law and order yesterday made tire decisions during a meeting. The committee also ordered law enforcers to bust any illegal trade of alcohol before December 31st. Considering the recent devastating cyclone, there will be no illumination on government offices during Eid-ul-Azhaand Christmas.

The committee also asked the garment factory owners to pay the employees their salaries and bonus before Eid.

With Home Secretary Abdul Karim in the chair, the meeting instructed law enforcers to be more vigilant in stopping extortion at markets, cattle markets and on highways. Police will also escort trucks carrying cattle to the capital and other directions.

Officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Dhaka City Corporation, police, Rapid Action Battalion, Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), Ansar and the Coastguard attended the meeting.
