A 10-member medical board has been formed for the treatment of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of former prime minister Khaleda Zia, at the cardiology department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

Led by Prof Dr KMHS Sirajul Haque, chairman of the cardiology department, the medical board examined Koko immediately after it was formed at around 11:00am yesterday.

He was admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) at BSSMU under Associate Professor Dr Manjur Mahmud from Dhaka Central Jail on Friday at about 4:15pm.

Koko arrived at the hospital with pain in chest and shoulder along with cough and respiratory complexities, Dr Sirajul Haque said adding, "He has been suffering from conjunctivitis since this (yesterday) morning."

However, the patient's breathing problems are not as serious at present as before, Dr Sirajul said. "Examination of the craniological problem (relating to skull) is going on and the actual condition will be known from the test reports," he added.

Quoting the physicians, DIG (prison) Maj Shamsul Haider Siddique told The Daily Star that Koko's condition has improved and his blood pressure is normal.

Koko was arrested in the early hours on September 3 along with his mother Khaleda Zia in a corruption case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court approved a seven-day remand for interrogating Koko later that day. He was, however, sent to jail on Thursday before the remand period was over.
