Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) arranged a discussion and cultural programme to observe Rabindranath Tagore's death anniversary on August 6. The programme was held at the National Theatre Stage.

At the discussion, eminent litterateur Selina Hossain and poet Asad Chowdhury discussed Tagore as a humanist and a social reformer. The speakers elaborated on the way Tagore valued social harmony and made contributions towards community development.

National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Badiur Rahman was the chief guest and Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs A.B.M. Abdul Howk Chowdhury was the special guest. Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Quamrul Hassan ndc presided over the programme.

Artistes of BSA began with an instrumental rendition of Anondolokey mongolalokey birajo shatyo shundoro. Opala Farhat Nobed, Mohammad Faruk, Chhaya Rani Karmakar, Majibul Quayyum, Ridwana Afreen, Ashraf Mahmud, Sharmin Ahmed Lipi, Swapon Dutt, Rokaiya Hasina and others rendered Tagore songs throughout the evening. Fayzul Alam Pappu recited from the poem Porichoy.

Shyama, a dance-drama written by Tagore, was staged by Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts. Sadi Mohammed, Rezwana Chowdhury Bonna, Sirajus Salekin and Sajed Akbar among others rendered songs in the one and half hour long presentation.
