Limelight School annual sports
The prize giving ceremony of a three-day-long annual sports of Limelight Grammar School was held here on Thursday.
Chittagong Press Club General Secretary Ezaz Yusufi was present as the chief guest with the institute Chairman Prof Mohammed Khurshid Alam in the chair.
Head of Marine Fisheries Technology Mahbub Alam, Laila Kabir Degree College Prof Alam Akhter, Boalkhali Hazi Nurul Haq Degree College Prof Sabera Sharmin Keya, Chittagong City Corporation Officer Jane Alam and Omar Farukwere also present.
Later, the guests handed over the prizes among the winners of different events at the school located at city's Muradpurarea.
Workshop on 'Millennium Framework'
Speakers at a workshop observed that activities of the decade-long (2003-2012) programme for the betterment of the lifestyle of persons with disability in the Asia and Pacific region are not satisfactory though four years have already passed since the programme began.
They emphasised the need for coordinated efforts of the government
and non-government organisations in ordertoachievethe goals.
The Centre for Disable Concerns (CDC) in association with Disability in Development (CDD) organised the workshop on 'Millennium Framework' on Wednesday.
Additional Divisional Commissioner Mohiuddin Ahmad was present as the chief guest while visually impaired lawyer Advocate Khademul Islam Chowdhury presided over the inaugural ceremony. Social Welfare officer of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Paruma Begum was present as special guest.
CDC Executive Director Selim Nazrul, Coordinator Masudul Abedin Khan, Assistant Coordinator Taslima Akhter Khan, Sakina Yusuf and MA Gafur also spoke.
The speakers said the government has taken several initiatives for the development of the physically challenged people in the country.
A g r a b a d Women's College prize giving ceremony
The prize giving ceremony of Intercollege competition and a discussion meeting organised by Agrabad Women's College was held at its auditorium on Wednesday.
Best teacher and talent awards were also given atthe ceremony.
President of the college governing body Abdul Awal presided over the
ceremony while Principal Anwara Alam was also present.
Head of the philosophy department Prof Dilara Parvin received the best teacher award for 2006.
The speakers thanked the awardees and teachers of Bengali department for their hundred percent success in the last HSC examinations.
OPA medical camp held
Old Placidians' Association (OPA), an organisation of former students of St Placid's High School, organised a daylong medical camp on the eve of Independence Day.
Around 1700 poor patients received free medicines at the camp held on Tuesday.
Physicians of Father Budro Health Centre imparted training on nutrition and child healthcare among 355 poor mothers while Metropolitan Lions Club organised a voluntary blood donation programme.
Rotary Club of Chittagong Cosmopolitan distributed 2000 antiworm medicines among the poor children.
Former students of the school Dr Omar Faruq Yusufi and Professor Dr Wazir Ahmed conducted the medical camp as coordinator and assistant coordinator.
Later at a reception ceremony, OPA awarded five former students of the school in recognition of their contribution to theirprofessional fields.

Qadery, Headmaster of the school Rev Brother Pradwip Placids Gomez, Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Magistrate Muhammed Munir Chowdhury, District Governor of Lions Club Dr Sree Prakash Biswas and District Governor of Rotary Club Aminuzzaman Bhuiyan.
The organisation also gave away OPA Appreciation Award-2007 to Ronald Gomez as he was elected president of Catholic Club.

'Stock market entrepreneurfriendly'
The stock market of Bangladesh has become entrepreneur-friendly, President of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) Mohammed Abdullah Bokhari said.
He was addressing a meeting organised by the DSE in collaboration with Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) for the local business leaders and personalities last week.
The meeting aimed at making the businessmen aware of the benefits of listing on the bourses and understand different financial needs under new economic realities.
DSE Vice-President Ahmad Rashid Lali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prof Salahuddin Ahmed Khan, CSE First Vice-President Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury and CEO AB Siddique also spoke.
Nasiruddin said the CSE took an initiative to work together with the DSE
on some major development issues for further development of the country's capital market.
"Our market needs concerted efforts from different stakeholders, including the government, to expand its size and to be competitive with global perspective," he observed.

Coast Guard
seizes 431 beer cans
Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 431 cans of foreign liquor from a boat at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port on Thursday morning.
A patrol team of the Coast Guard
challenged the boat at outer anchorage 'C area at around 6:30am. At one stage, the smugglers jumped into the sea leaving behind the boat, said a press release of the coast guard.
The team found 431 cans of beer in the boat.
Later, the cans were handed over to Chittagong Customs Authority while the boatto Patenga Police Station.
