The West Indies need consistency ahead of next year's World Cup to keep up a recent run of good form, coach Bennett King said on Monday.

"We have had a good year in one-day internationals but we are still lacking in consistency," said the 42-year-old Australian after his team lost the third day-night international against Pakistan by seven wickets here on Sunday.

Pakistan gained an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match series, having also won the second match at Faisalabad by two wickets. The first match in Rawalpindi was washed out.

King hoped his team would perform well in the last two matches scheduled for Multan on December 13 and Karachi on December 16.

"We always knew beating Pakistan was going to be tough but still losing two close games

has been disappointing and now both the games are very important," said King, who took over two years ago.

The West Indies came to Pakistan after finishing runners-up to Australia twice -- in a tri-series in Malaysia in September and then in the elite eight-nation Champions Trophy in India last month.

"The boys have been touring since September and have done well, but now they must put in an effort for the last two games. We need to take every match as a must-win one. Winning the close ones is something we have to excel in," he said.

The West Indies badly missed key batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who both returned home after the preceding three-match Test series, which Pakistan won 2-0.

Sarwan fractured his right foot in the third Test in Karachi and was ruled out for a month while Bravo was allowed to return home to attend an ailing family member.

Another key batsman, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, has yet

to play in the one-day series after suffering a knee injury.

"They are not there so we must move on. Opportunities are available for others and they must take it. I am happy some of the younger players have shown development on this tour and that is a big positive before the World Cup," said King.

Fast rising Lendl Simmons -whose 108 for the West Indies 'A' against touring Pakistan in England four months ago paved the way for his entrance to the senior team -- scored a mature 70 in Sunday's match.

The tourists were 207-7 after 46.3 overs when bad light and technical problems in floodlights ended their innings. Pakistan were given a revised target of 191 in 35 overs which they achieved for the loss of three wickets.

King blamed the West Indies' bowlers for the defeat.

"We just didn't bowl well. If we had repeated our bowling performance of Faisalabad we could have defended the 191, which was a good total."
