To celebrate Victory Day, the Liberation War Museum has organised a weeklong celebration programme starting from December 10 at its premises. Discussions and cultural shows will feature in the celebration.

In his welcome speech Mafidul Haque, a trustee of the museum said, “This year all the programmes are prepared in a way so that the post-war generation can feel the pulse of the Liberation War and imbibe the spirit of the war in building the nation.”

On the opening day, Justice Mohammad Golam Rabbani delivered a speech on the relationship between religion and human rights. According to him, “A religious person cannot violate human

rights. On the other hand, no humanist can do adharm. The nation had witnessed a pseudo-religious group who were against the Liberation War in 1971. We should give more attention to references of human rights in religious texts.”

The cultural show began with performances by the students of Domar Bohumukhi High School of Neelphamari. The organisers asserted that as part of the communication efforts by the Liberation War Museum with the students of different educational institutions, it extensively travelled with a mobile library throughout June this year. Inspired by the efforts, students of Domar of Neelphamari collected stories based on interviews of 154 incidents of the area during the war and submitted the documents to the museum. Their participation in the programme

reflects the developing relationship. They gave a choral rendition of Amra muktijuddha ek swapno niye. They performed a jari gaan and two songs of local/regional dialect (Bangladesher manush gula tumak dechhe nimontron and O dada dadir sathe koyna kotha).

The Rabindra Sangeet Sammilon Parishad, Dhaka city unit then took the stage and performed Lakho lakho shaheeder rokto makha shobujer buke lal surjo aka, muktiro mondiro supano tole, Samudro uttal jonota tarango ke rukhbe and Ei uttal ekdin bhangbei ekbar.

The last performance of the day was a children's play, titled Ronangoner goenda by Bidrohi Shishu Theatre, Panchogar. Written by Muhammad Abdur Rahim, the play depicts the story of a family's sacrifice in the Liberation War.
