Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) yesterday threatened to launch tough agitation programmes across the country if President and Chief Adviser to the caretaker government Iajuddin Ahmed fails to take necessary steps to conduct a free and fair election by today.

At a rally at Muktangan in the city, the CPB leaders also demanded reconstitution of the Election Commission (EC) and depoliticisation of the administration

by today.

They said that the chief adviser is still following the direction of the BNP-Jamaat alliance, rather than proving himself to be neutral.

He also violated the constitution and his oath by saying that the present form of government has become a presidential form of government, they alleged.

He also ignored other advisers to the caretaker government through such remarks, they added.

CPB President Monzurul Ahsan Khan presided over the rally.
