The well marked low over the east central Bay of Bengal has weakened into a low pressure area moving into the north Bay, whipping up squally winds in the sea prompting the met office to ask the maritime ports to hoist local cautionary warning signal number three replacing the signal number one from yesterday morning.

All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and warned not to venture into the Bay until further notice, a special bulletin of the met office said.

The well marked low was formed off a depression in the east central Bay on Sunday after weakening, but transformed into a low pressure area early yesterday, moving away to the north Bay with deep convection clouds whipping up squally winds roaring over the Bay, making navigation difficult, met sources said.

The coastal areas would have high winds and some stray rains. But inside the country the rains continued to shy away with only two mm rains at Jessore recorded by the met office during the last 24 hours ending at 6am today.

The rains have fallen despite the formation of the depression and the low pressure in the Bay with monsoon is on the retreat to wind up its season likely from today.

As rains slowed down the heat and humidity have risen across the country which is likely to continue so long the low pressure remains in the Bay, the met sources said.
