Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Ali Asghar expressed his excitement at Bangladesh's hosting of the 2011 World Cup but also said that nothing have been decided yet on the number of matches to be held in Bangladesh.

"The 2011 Cricket World Cup is far away and nothing is finalised so far. A secretariat for the World Cup will be set up in Pakistan and everything will be decided later on," he told reporters at a press conference at a city hotel on Thursday.

"Series of meetings among the four co-host countries are to be held to settle everything."

Earlier, a BCB top official claimed that six matches would be held in Bangladesh but the BCB boss said it was just for the sake of presentation of the bid.

The Board president celebrated the successful bid by cutting a large cake.

BCB vice-president Aziz Al Kaiser, general secretary Mahbub Anam, joint secretaries Reazuddin Al Mamun, Rafiqul Islam and CEO Mahmudur Rahman were present on the occasion. State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman was supposed to attend the press conference. But BCB president informed that 'the state minister is sick and would be unable to attend the press conference.'

The BCB President, right after his speech, expressed his sorrow over the Chittagong incident during the second Test match between Bangladesh and Australia where the police brutally attacked and injured at least 20 journalists and photojournalists.

Asghar also revealed that Bangladesh will propose to host the opening or final of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011, which will be staged in four Asian countries -- Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The president, however, faced a volley of questions regarding his statement on reclaiming the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) for the course of the 2011 World Cup.

The BCB president sparked fresh debate on the BNS when he expressed his desire to get back the premier venue to host World Cup matches on his arrival at the airport from Dubai on Wednesday.

"If country's people want to see the World Cup matches at the BNS, we will host the matches at the this venue in the greater interest of country and the

cricket-loving people in general," he said.

He however maintained that that they would require the BNS on "a temporary basis for the World Cup."

BCB general secretary Mahbub Anam said that among the three venues, BNS would be an option because the teams participating in the World Cup would require the best conditions for practicing as well as playing practice matches.

But he didn't have much to say when asked about the thought of an alternative venue in their scheme of things when they had left the BNS for football back in October 2004.

He had a different view on the priorities of BCB, ahead of the premier event.

"We are more focused on improving the performance of the national over the next five years so that they can be one of the top teams when the World Cup is staged in Bangladesh," he said.

Asghar also reiterated his general secretary's views.

"Though Bangladesh have been playing well, but we will actually know where we will stand after the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies. From now on we have to be prepared to be group champions in the World Cup 2011 on home soil," he added.
