not to allow law enforcers' entry into any houses at Kansat without a warrant.

Advocate ZI Khan Panna, also chairman of Human Rights and Legal Aid Committee, appealed to the HC to direct the respondents (authorities at various levels) in the writ petition to ensure that law enforcers do not attack any persons at Kansat or harass anyone by way of threat or other violent means, and do not open fire on anyindividual in violation oflaw.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) yesterday formed an 11-member probe body headed by eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain to investigate killing of people in police firing at Kansat in Chapainawabganj.

It will visit Kansat tomorrow.

Dr Kamal filed the supplementary application on behalf of Panna and the HC fixed Sunday for hearing on the matter.

The writ petition was filed as Public Interest Litigation (PIL), and the HC gave its order.

In the supplementary application, Panna also prayed to the HC to direct the respondents to inform it ifits earlier order was complied with.

The respondents include the home secretary, inspector general of police, deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) of Chapainawabganj, officer-in-charge of Shibganj Police Station, Rural

Electrification Board and Palli Bidyut Samity.

Yesterdays application said, " High Court Division issued a directive (on April 9) not to arrest or harass the innocent members of the Palli Bidyuat Sangram Committee and the innocent villagers . But there have been rampant attacks on the innocent villagers, and their houses and property are being subjected to damage and looting by the police force."

SCBA CONDEMNS

The SCBA leaders yesterday condemned police brutality at Kansat and said the law enforcing agencies have violated the HC order to stop killing of innocent people and torture on women and children in a barbaric way.

They also demanded exemplary punishment of the policemen responsible for the killings.

The Bar leaders blamed the ruling BNP for the Kansat carnage and demanded immediate resignation of the government.

The probe body includes SCBA President M Amir-ul-Islam, Bar Council Chairman Rokonuddin Mahmud, Shafiq Ahmed, Abdul Baset Majumdar, Mohammad Ozayer Faruq, Mahbubey Alam, ABM Nurul Islam, Dr M Zahir, Md Rafiqul Islam Mia andAMAmin Uddin.
