Fiorentina climbed to second in Serie A after Stefano Fiore scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Treviso on Saturday.

The midfielder's second-half goal gave the twice Italian champions 32 points from 15 games, seven behind leaders Juventus who host Cagliari on Sunday.

AC Milan are third with 31 points and play city rivals Inter in Sunday's late match.

Fiorentina dominated possession at Florence's Franchi stadium but made heavy weather of Treviso, who went into the game second from bottom after winning only once this season.

Fiorentina forced visiting goalkeeper Adriano Zancope into a diving save with an early effort.

Their best chance before the interval came just after the half-hour mark when Alessandro Gamberini was pulled down inside the area and referee Roland Herberg pointed to the spot but Luca Toni's weak pen-

alty was easily saved by Zancope.

Fiorentina came out more aggressively after the break and took the lead in the 52nd minute as Giampaolo Pazzani scampered down the right and crossed for Fiore to head in at the far post.

Treviso rarely looked capable of an equaliser but six minutes from time the ball broke loose from a corner and rolled invitingly across Fiorentina's goal but there was no one to poke it in.

In Saturday's other match, an early goal by Albanian striker Erion Bogdani gave Siena a 1-0 win over Tuscan rivals Empoli.

Siena move up two places to 12th with 18 points from 15 matches, one point more than Empoli in 13th place.

Bogdani struck after two minutes, sweeping Simone Vergassola's low cross past keeper Gianluca Berti from close range.

Midfielder Ighli Vannucchi came closest to an equaliser before the interval when he unleashed a fierce drive from outside the area that keeper Antonio Mirante did well to save.
