The parliament session that began yesterday amid continued boycott by the main opposition Awami League is unlikely to hold discussion on the August 17 serial bomb blasts as the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has not taken any decision about it.

The BAC at a meeting yesterday with Speaker Jamiruddin Sircar in the chair decided the session will continue until September 21 and pass nine bills including six to raise salaries and allowances of the president, prime minister, ministers, state ministers, deputy ministers, lawmakers and judges of the Supreme Court. The issue of discussion on the August 17 blasts was not raised in the meeting attended by the prime minister and other senior ministers.

The Parliament Secretariat informed the meeting 25 notices were submitted by the opposition lawmakers demanding discussion on the serial bomb blasts, adjourning the other businesses of the House, meeting sources told The Daily Star.

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for the first time after the August 17 attack made a written speech yesterday in parliament.

The ruling alliance lawmakers did not raise the issue during the question-answer session of the state minister for home affairs.
