Top criminal Arman Khan was finally sent to jail yesterday on completion of his 31-day remand after his arrest.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nani Gopal Biswas ordered to send Arman, one of the 23 most wanted criminals of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, to Dhaka Central Jail as police did not submit any petition for further remand although he was

shown arrested in another murder case.

On completion of the seven-day remand in a murder case in Mirpur in August last year, investigation officer (IO) and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-4 Sub Inspector Rifat Khan Rajib produced Arman before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's (CMM) Court, Dhaka at about 11:45am under a tight security.

The forwarding report placed before the court said Arman gave important information about the murder which is now being verified. Arman should be confined in jail until the investigation completes, the IO said.

Opposing the police report, the defence lawyers prayed to the court for Arman's bail saying their client was implicated in the murder cases one after another.

After hearing both the sides, the court rejected the bail petition and sent Arman to jail.

Arrested on June 4, Arman had been on remand for the last 31 days--the first 10 days in an arms case, and the next 21 days in three unknown murder cases filed with Motijheel, Khilgaon and Mirpur police stations.

The complainants of the murder cases did not suspect Arman as the killer of the victims but the police took Arman on remand in the name of interrogation, said a lawyer on condition of anonymity. The police submitted the same forwarding reports to the court although they found no connection of Arman with the killings, he added.

Meanwhile, Arman was also shown arrested in connection with the killing of an unidentified youth in Mirpur in August last year. The FIR (first information report) of the case said an unidentified youth of about 27 was gunned down in Mirpur on August 4 last year.

Earlier on June 28, the Rab took Arman on a seven-day remand in connection with the killing of an unidentified youth at Lalkuthi First Colony in Mirpur on September 7 last year.

The Rab had also arrested "Pichchi" Hannan, also one of the 23 top-listed criminals, and he was killed in "cross fire" in Savar while he was on remand for interrogation.
