Dhaka University authorities yesterday granted the six-member committee 15 more days to investigate the incidents of violence on the campus between May 28 and 29,said Vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz.

The deadline for submission of a report was extended after the committee asked for more time. It also wrote to the legal advisor of the

university to let it know whether there is any legal obstruction to conducting the enquiry.

Tension still runs high on the campus in the wake of a spate of violence last week after a student of the university was crushed by a bus at Shahbagh on May 28.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of main opposition Awami League, has announced demonstrations at the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday.

The ruling BNP's student front Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) declared the BCL unwanted on the campus blaming it for a bomb blast near the site of a JCD rally.

Authorities have banned rally at the Shaheed Minar, Shoparjito Swadhinata and Raju Sculpture in view of the volatile campus situation, Proctor Prof AKA Firoz Ahmed said.

The police chased a group of BCL activists as they tried to enter the campus through the Central Shaheed Minar area at around 10:00am.

The JCD men, who had been chasing the BCL men out on sight for the past few days, apparently let their guard off yesterday, as no surveillance was spotted at the main entrances to the university campus.
