Director General of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Major General Jahangir Alam Choudhury yesterday met the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) RK Chaudhari in Agartala when the two sides agreed to maintain peace on the border.

Sources said the BDR chief went to the capital of the Indian state of Tripura through Akhaura immigration check post and exchanged greetings with the BSF DIG and other battalion commanders.

Comilla Sector Commander Colonel JahangirAlam and Commanding Officer of BDR-7 Rifles Battalion Lt Colonel Syed Kamruzzaman accompanied their chief.

Later, Gen Jahangir visited the Fakirmura border outpost and gave necessary directives to his force to ensure full time border patrol and curb cross-border crimes, an official handout said.

He also exchanged views with the officials of the paramilitary force and asked them to face any situation with patience and wisdom.

Our B'baria correspondent reported that the BDR chief also visited the border village, Hirapur, in Akhaura and talked to the people affected during the BDR-BSF confrontation on April16.

He told the villagers that the BDR men would help them harvest crops in their fields near the frontier.

The BDR DG also visited the family of the 10-year-old Nahid Akhter who was killed in BSF firing on April 16.

Talking to newsmen, the BDR chief said the probe report on the Akhaura incident found no offence on the part of his force.
