The premiere show of the tele-film Detective, directed and scripted by Mustafa Sarwar Faruqui, will be held today, at the Star Cineplex of Bashundhara City.

Under the banner of Impress Telefilm Limited, the film will be telecast on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on Channel i on May 8, at 7:50pm.

Adapted from the short story Detective by Rabindranath Tagore, the theme is about a former army personnel who wants to be a private eye. To fulfill his ambition he goes to the police stations and other places. However, he fails to dig into any investigation. According to the director, "The twist of the story is at the end when this man faces an unexpected truth."

Featuring Aupee Karim, Luthfar Rahman George, Shamim Shahed and Rifat Chowdhury, the 42-minute film has been shot in Beta SP format. Faruqui says, "Keeping the original story intact, I have taken the liberty to change the time, locale and the names of the characters in the film. Tagore's story is set in nineteenth century Kolkata. However, my film revolves around Bangladeshi people living in the old town of Dhaka in the present time."

The premiere of the film, which will be screened at the cinema hall, is meant for television screening. Faruqui says, "There is no trend of screening video fictions in the movie

theatre in our country, but we hope to start this trend in future."

Faruqui is optimistic about the film. As he says, "I think people will find it interesting as they will get to view a new adaptation of Tagore's story."
