A Bangladeshi teenage girl who worked as a domestic help in Dubai is now at a Dhaka hospital having been seriously assaulted by her

employer, and being robbed of all her possessions on arrival in Dhaka.

under Sonargaon upzila of Narayanganj, was forced to work 22 hours a day for a 16-member family in Dubai. The family members poured boiling water on her and pressed hot iron against her which caused blisters on her right hand and left leg.

'Ehe family for whom Jamila worked for one and a half years sent her back to Dhaka when she was no longer useful to them.

On her arrival at Zia International Airport (ZIA) on Friday, World Human Rights Day, she was robbed on her way home.

She landed at the ZIA at about 11:30am and sought help from the locals in the airport to find her a way to go to her home in Sonargaon.

"I tried to rent a car from the airport but could not afford it as the fare was high," Jamila told The Daily Star last evening.

was helpless and offered to take her to her village pretending they were going in that direction, she said.

The gang of three took a bus to Gulistan and one of them sat by her. "I don't know how, but after a while I became unconscious and they took away all my belongings leaving me in the bus," she added.

This included Tk 6,000 in local currency that she had changed in the airport, some UAE currency, a small bag with clothes and her passport.

Some local people at Gulistan found her unconscious in the bus and admitted her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Friday evening.

After 24 hours, doctors at the DMCH managed to bring her out of unconciousness. "She is improving now and needs good care to recover which will take couple of more days," said the on-duty nurse at the DMCH.
