Twenty people including four policemen were hurt in a clash over a disputed land in Bayezid area in the city yesterday.

Police and witnesses said vio-lence erupted when some 30 people of one of the feuding groups led allegedly by two advocates went to take possession of a piece of disputed land at Chanda Nagor Bazar under Bayezid thana around 2:00pm.

The feuding sides attacked each other with lethal weapons and several gunshots were also heard. Police brought the situation under control after firing blank shots and teargas shells. The clash left twenty people including four cops hurt, witnesses said. The injured policemen are SubInspector (SI) Arifur Rahman and constables Karim Ullah, Mujibur Rahman and Anisur Rahman.

Police arrested 16 people at the scene, while the SI filed a case with Bayezid Police Station.
