ATURE hit again last week, in tornadoes and torrents, sending the city reeling under water and leaving the outskirts in devastation. Life froze in lashing rains and gusts, but then it had to take its very own course. At Tongi where a tornado struck for a few minutes, tin-sheds were left in twists and wrecks. Even then devotees prayed in the driving rains. Rickshaws plied the capital roads in knee-deep water, showing once again that this city has become unfit to withstand any kind of calamities. And a road in the suburb, unpaved by the rains in the past few months, only proves the total apathy of the authorities.
