Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided the BK Roy road residence of the editor of Dainik Tathya, Sheikh Nazrul Islam, Friday afternoon reportedly to arrest him and a notorious armed cadre of PBCP (Janajuddho).

According to an official of Rab, Nazrul Islam, also senior vice president of Khulna Press Club, director of FBCCI and former president of KCCI, was providing shelter to outlaws wanted in several sensational criminal cases including murders and bomb attacks. The outlaws were about to hold a secret meeting at Nazrul Islam's residence on Friday afternoon, the Rab official said.

However, both the editor and the outlaw escaped arrest scaling the boundary wall at the back of the residence sensing presence of Rab members.

Rab refused to disclose the name of the PBCP outlaw for whose capture the raid was conducted breaking into the two-storeyed strongly fenced palatial building of the industrialist editor of Dainik Tathya.

According to an employee of Islam's firm, members of Rab also stormed into his newspaper office after ransacking most of the rooms of his residence. They seized a passport and a telephone index that belonged to the editor. A briefcase was also taken away by Rab members after the raid which lasted nearly two hours.

The caretaker of the house, however, denied the allegation of Rab and described the man accompanying the editor to his residence before raid as his cousin.

Sheikh Nazrul Islam shifted his family in Dhaka early this year fearing arrest as police suspected him as the mastermind of at least three sensational murders.
