Leaders of the ruling four-party alliance yesterday said the main opposition Awami League (AL) will be a 'marginalised party' in the next general elections as it has taken a stand against the people and the country.

The alliance has established constitutional rule, democratic atmosphere, peace and security, andiscarryingout massivedevelop-ment work while the ALhas resorted

to 'politics of destruction' and 'undemocratic activities', they said, "We are confident the number of seats of, BNP and its alliance partners will further increase while Awami League will be marganilised in the next elections to be held after two years because of its negative politics," said BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan.

Addressing a huge public rally at Muktangon in tire capital marking the coalition's three years in power, Bhuiyan said the alliance has

already implemented most of its election pledges and will realise the rest in the next two years.

The BNP, Jarnaat-e-lslami, Islami Oikya Jote (1OJ) and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) jointly organised the rally as part of their rallies in all divisional and district headquarters.

main opposition party. Otherwise we could have made more progress," said Bhuiyan, also minister for LGRD and Coooperatives.

On the Jatiya Sangsad, he said the AL mostly remained absent from the House in the past three years to make it ineffective. They sometimes joined parliament sessions with the 'motive of jeopardising the House instead of making it effective', he added.

The minister said they have it has established people's voting right through holding of free and fair elections at various levels in the last three years.

To ensure security, the government has introduced speedy trial tribunals and laws, and formed special forces to enforce laws neutrally. This has greatly improved law and order, Bhuiyan mentioned.

Criticising today's AL-called hartal, the minister said the AL has been calling hartals one after another without any issue although people no longer support shutdowns.

Law Minister Moudud Ahmed said the AL remained absent from parliament for 21 months and enforced hartals on 37 days in the last 36 months.

Quoting former finance minister SAMS Kibria of the AL government, Moudud said he (Kibria) had said one day's hartal caused the nation a loss of Tk 386 crore. So, the AL-called hartals have already caused around Tk 14,000 crore in loss, he mentioned.

Health Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said the alliance government has eliminated 'god fathers' patronised by he previous AL government.

Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid said the coalition government has established rule of law and people's rights, and greatly decreased dependence on foreign aid.

IOJ leader Abdur Rab Yusufi asked the AL to stop 'politics of bomb explosions' and 'killing of innocent people'.

Chaired by city BNP chief and Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, the rally was also addressed by BNP leaders Tariqul Islam, Mirza Abbas, Amanullah Aman, Mosaddak Ali Falu, Zafrul Hasan, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Salahuddin Ahmed and Abdus Salam.

Jamaat leaders Mohammad Kamaruzzaman, Abdul Qader Mollah and ATM Azharul Islam, BJP leaders ABM Golam Mostafa, Saifur Rahman and Golam Sarwar Milon, and IOJ leaders Ahmed Abdul Qader, Junaid Al Habib, Abul Kashem and Ezharul Islam Chowdhury also addressed the rally.
