Chhayanaut recently organised a special programme to observe the death anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. The musical soiree took place at the Natmandal of Dhaka university. The students and teachers of Chhayanaut rendered different Nazrul songs and set a sombre tone to mark this event.

The chorus numbers such as Ajhor dharay borsha jhorey, O ke udashi and Megh medur borshay were well rendered. The slow pace of those popular numbers with rich

lyrics and melodious music was performed to a receptive audience.

After the routine performance by Kalpana Anam, who rendered Ami chirotore durey, Shumon Majumdar with a baritone voice rendered a romantic number Shawon ashilo phirey. His rendition was well suited for Nazrul Sangeet. Munni performed Jharo jharo jhare next. This classical song had appropriate instrumental inputs. But the singer needs to absorb the proper tune of Nazrul songs. Anup also rendered a very beautiful track, Ami patho manjari ,

that was appreciated by the audience. Noted Nazrul singer Shahin Samad rendered Ditey ele phul with her polished performance. Her pronunciation and voice modulation was appropriate.

Khayrul Anam Shakil rendered the final solo number, Keu bhole na keu bhole, that touched a responsive chord in the audience because of his soulful singing. The programme ended with the group rendition of our national anthem Amar Shonar Bangla.
